  • Blast from the Past: First F-35C Arrested Landing at Sea
  • On November 3, 2014, the U.S. Navy made aviation history when an F-35C Lightning II conducted its first arrested landing aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) off the coast of San Diego. The arrested landing was part of initial at-sea Developmental Testing I (DT-I), a series of at-sea trials for the aircraft to ensure compatibility with shipboard arresting gear.

The F-35C’s design and capabilities make it well suited for the U.S. Navy and carrier-based operations. With larger wings and a more robust landing gear, it is optimized for catapult launches and arrested recoveries, enhancing the flexibility and reach of the U.S. Naval Fleet.

This successful arrested landing was not only a symbolic representation of continued excellence, as it also highlighted the seamless integration of fifth-generation aviation technology with at-sea operations.
