-
On June 12, Red Flag-Alaska 2023 kicked off at Eielson AFB and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. F-35As with the 356th Fighter Squadron joined the exercise which will provide unique opportunities to integrate various forces into joint, coalition and multilateral training from simulated forward operating bases.
Approximately 2,000 service members are expected to fly, maintain and support more than 70 aircraft from 32 units during the Pacific Air Forces-led exercise.
Additionally, service members from the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and the Republic of Korea Air Force are scheduled to participate in the exercise, enabling the participants to exchange tactics, techniques and procedures while improving interoperability.
Since starting in 1975 as Exercise Cope Thunder at Clark Air Base in the Philippines, Red Flag-Alaska exercises have served as exceptional platforms for integrating diverse forces within a realistic threat environment.
This exercise offers unparalleled opportunities for participants to seamlessly combine their efforts. By simulating realistic scenarios, it facilitates the development of essential skills and enhances the coordination among different military units. Red Flag-Alaska 2023 is scheduled to conclude June 23.
