  • Truax Field Welcomes Advanced F-35 Aircraft to 115th Fighter Wing
  • On April 25, the Wisconsin Air National Guard's 115th Fighter Wing received its first F-35 Lightning II aircraft, making it the second Air National Guard unit to possess the advanced fighter. The arrival of the F-35s at Truax Field was celebrated by the fighter wing’s members, community leaders, and state officials.  

    The 115th FW's achievement was the culmination of a decade-long effort, which included the support of the 128th Air Refueling Wing and the unique training complex encompassing Volk Field, Hardwood, and Ft. McCoy. Wisconsin Air National Guard leaders praised the combined talent, will, and desire of the three air bases that led to their selection for conversion to the F-35. 

    The F-35s will enable the 115th FW to support community, state, and national defense missions, joining a vast fleet of F-35s across the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps, as well as among international partners and allies. Maj. Gen. Paul Knapp, the adjutant general of Wisconsin, emphasized the vital role of the F-35 in the national defense and the new era of great power competition.  (Read more...)
