  • “Blast From the Past”: Republic of Korea Air Force Achieves Initial Operational Capability With F-35A
  • On February 15, 2023, the Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF) declared initial operating capability (IOC) for its conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) F-35A.

ROKAF F-35As in IOC configuration are now capable of flying interdiction, basic close air support, and limited suppression/destruction of enemy air defenses missions. Furthermore, it denotes that the ROKAF has adequately trained pilots, maintainers and support equipment to conduct such missions.

In 2023, the Korean F-35As continue patrol and participation in joint exercises with allies like the United States. They are a uniter of the F-35 in the Indo-Pacific.
