- ODIN Base Kits Improve Maintenance Ops Aboard USS Makin Island
-
The F-35 Joint Program Office has achieved another step in its evolution of the F-35 logistics information system. The Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 122’s F-35Bs aboard the USS Makin Island received significant support from Marines out of Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz., who used Operational Data Integrated Network (ODIN) Base Kit (OBK) hardware to manage shipboard aircraft maintenance operations.
The onboard maintenance teams gained the advantage of improved computing power available in a smaller set of equipment, more suitable for expeditionary use.
ODIN OBK only needed about one hour to get off a cargo van to being up and operational. Two people carried the entire kit up and down stairs – one person for [the] computing node, one for [the] Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS). The setup was about 15 minutes of work, according to the teams aboard USS Makin Island.
ODIN brings more capability to the warfighters at the tactical edge.
