- Strike Fighter Squadron 97 Becomes Second F-35C Navy Squadron Declared “Safe For Flight”
-
The Navy’s second fleet squadron to operate the F-35C has been declared safe for flight. The “safe for flight” designation means a squadron has the right personnel and equipment, as well as maintenance and safety programs, in place to support itself in conducting routine flight operations. Strike Fighter Squadron 97 (VFA-97) — the Warhawks — reached that status February 18. VFA-97, which began transition to the F-35C in February 2021, had operated the F/A-18 since 2013 at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California. The Warhawks flew the Super Hornet for the last time on February 26, 2021. Read more: Navy’s Second F-35C Fleet Squadron Declared Safe for Flight - Seapower (seapowermagazine.org)
