  • Red Flag 22-1 Concludes With F-35 Leading the Exercises
  • Around 2,900 participants from several U.S. armed services branches, plus the Royal Air Force for the United Kingdom and the Royal Australian Air Force, flew in the first iteration of Red Flag in 2022 which concluded on February 11. Red Flag is the Air Force’s premier air-to-air combat exercise. With the 388th Fighter Wing from Hill Air Force Base, Utah, at the lead wing position, it put the F-35 center stage. Red Flag gives aircrews an opportunity to experience advanced, relevant, and realistic combat-like situations and prepares maintenance personnel, ground controllers, space and cyber operators to support those missions within the same tactical environment. Young pilots at Red Flag described the F-35A as “having so much situational awareness that constant information is provided to the pilot.” Read more: 388th OSS providing combat intelligence for Red Flag’s joint force > Hill Air Force Base > Article Display (af.mil)
