The F-35 Lightning II Program (also known as the Joint Strike Fighter Program) is the Department of Defense's focal point for defining affordable next generation strike aircraft weapon systems for the Navy, Air Force, Marines, and our allies. The F-35 will bring cutting-edge technologies to the battlespace of the future.

The JSFs advanced airframe, autonomic logistics, avionics, propulsion systems, stealth, and firepower will ensure that the F-35 is the most affordable, lethal, supportable and survivable aircraft ever to be used by so many warfighters across the globe.

25 October - Belgium Joins F-35 Program with Selection of F-35A
We're pleased the Kingdom of Belgium has selected the F-35A as their next generation fighter to fulfill their country's national security needs. Their decision to join the program will strengthen our important and long-standing relationship.

19 October - F-35B Completes Initial Testing Aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth
On Oct. 16 British sailors and members of the F-35 Integrated Test Force (ITF) at Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River, Maryland, completed a successful opening phase of the First of Class Flight Trials being conducted this fall aboard the UK’s new aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, near the U.S. eastern seaboard.

19 October - New Tech To Ease F-35A Flight Line Maintenance
Maintainers on Hill’s flight line are beginning to utilize new high-tech, hand-held tablets to work on the F-35A, America’s most advanced multi-role fighter aircraft.

15 October - UPDATE: F-35s Returned To Flight After Engine Inspection
After completing inspections, more than 80 percent of operational F-35s have been cleared and returned to flight operations. All U.S. services and international partners have resumed flying with their cleared aircraft.

9 October - U.S. Marine Pilot Becomes A Part Of Aviation History
For 11 weeks, Marine Corps Maj. Michael Lippert, an F-35B test pilot, and three British pilots will test the performance of the F-35B Lightning II on the deck of the HMS Queen Elizabeth, the United Kingdom’s newest and largest aircraft carrier.
